What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a Manager, R&D Science and Engineering to lead the new dept 08227 in SNL‑CA.
This department encompasses the Environmental Test Facilities (ETF) team along with the calibration services team for SNL‑CA.
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Supervise and manage a multidisciplinary team of exempt and non‑exempt staff within the department, including responsibilities for hiring, professional development, and performance management, all aligned with the organization's mission.
- Establish the strategic vision for the department and actively seek out new and innovative opportunities.
- Advocate for new R&D activities and initiatives that align with the department's core capabilities.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of safety and security as they relate to the operations and facility needs of the department.
- Promote a culture of belonging and take a proactive leadership role in fostering team‑building values within the department.
- Represent the department's needs to various levels of management, as well as within internal and external program offices, focusing on facility modernization, improvements, and repairs.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including the development and implementation of new technologies and processes.
- Identify and pursue strategic investments to sustain and enhance the departments infrastructure and core capabilities.
- Support the team with programmatic and technical tasks.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Livermore, CA.
Salary Range$194,900 - $331,000
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and eight (8) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent DoD Top Secret level security clearance
The ideal R&D Science and Engineering Manager candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience.
- A graduate degree in science or engineering (MS or Ph.D.).
- Outstanding interpersonal skills in developing trusting relationships with peers, staff, management, customers, and stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports and documentation.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Background in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
- Technical expertise or knowledge in structural dynamics and vibration/shock testing.
