Bala Consulting Engineers is a 200‑person engineering firm headquartered just outside of Philadelphia, PA, with offices in New York, Boston, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. We are looking for an ambitious individual to serve as a Commissioning Project Manager (CxPM) specializing in mechanical/controls systems. The role focuses on mechanical system upgrades, new construction testing, and a range of commissioning services for Fortune 500 companies across the United States.

This position will place a successful candidate in a team of leading commissioning and QA‑QC mechanical systems testing engineers. Responsibilities include executing ASHRAE Level‑1 through Level‑5 commissioning, LEED Cx, Energy Code Cx, and Retro Cx on mechanical infrastructure, distribution, and controls systems. The role also involves predictive preventative maintenance planning, systemic and component troubleshooting, and client‑facing project management.

• Serve as project manager on select Cx projects (data centers, new builds, renovations, fit‑outs, infrastructure upgrades, LEED Cx, Energy Code Cx, Retro Cx).
• Client‑facing duties: review RFPs, attend pre‑bid walkthroughs, write proposals, test scripts, and reports; plan work, execute, and manage day‑to‑day project activities.
• Provide full management functions, including scope definition, client management, scheduling, and financial oversight.
• Assist other CxPMs across all company locations and develop a core group of assistant project managers.
• Act as a technical resource for staff; schedule and conduct quality control and document reviews; provide peer feedback and multidisciplinary design support.
• Participate in project staffing: review workforce projections, influence design schedules, evaluate staff performance, and contribute to ownership and accountability culture.
• Drive marketing and business development: identify potential business opportunities, develop fee structures with leadership, maintain client relationships, and grow office market sectors.
• Travel: majority of time will be in the local Wayne area with occasional travel to other Bala offices and national project sites as needed.

• At least 8 years’ experience in commissioning or a related field (construction, owner’s representative, etc.).
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a comparable field.
• Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), or similar credential preferred.
• Data center experience preferred.
• Proven project and people management experience.
• Strong interpersonal, team‑building, and technical writing skills.
• Knowledge of building codes and industry best practices for mechanical/controls systems commissioning.
• Familiarity with electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems is a plus.
