Position: Environmental Quality Analyst 9-P11 (Gaylord District Office)
Location: Gaylord

This position implements portions of programs that fulfill the statutory responsibilities of the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Resources Division (WRD) to protect human health and prevent unlawful pollution of the surface waters of the state. Specific functions of this position include National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Industrial Storm Water (ISW) compliance and enforcement activities; investigating environmental pollution incidents to determine the cause;

responding to spill emergencies and complaints on ISW permitted facilities; and providing assistance in addressing district issues and information requests, as needed or requested.

This position also administers the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) Program regulated under Part 91, SESC, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (NREPA); and the Construction Storm Water (CSW) Program regulated under Part 31, Water Resources Protection, of the NREPA.

This position is located in the Gaylord District Office but reports to the Cadillac District Office – Water Quality Unit. This position’s primary coverage area is the 12 counties associated with the Gaylord District Office but may also include some coverage assignments in counties associated with the Cadillac District Office.

Education

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, engineering, environmental studies and sustainability, physical sciences, resource development, or resource management.

OR

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, crop and soil science, ecology, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies and sustainability, forest management, geology, meteorology, microbiology, physics, remote sensing, resource development, resource management, toxicology, or zoology.

Experience
  • Environmental Quality Analyst 9:
    No specific type or amount is required.
  • Environmental Quality Analyst 10:
    One year of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 9.
  • Environmental Quality Analyst P11:
    Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst including one year equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 10.

The work location of this position will be Gaylord, MI. However, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person). Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access.
