External DescriptionALPA, the largest airline pilot union, seeks an experienced Staff Engineer to coordinate policies, regulations, and standards for current and future civilian flight deck technologies.
ResponsibilitiesThe Staff Engineer coordinates with government agencies and the aviation industry, develops written communications, supports representation to FAA, TC, TSA, and NAV CANADA, participates in standards development at RTCA and ASTM, and assists in meeting travel requirements of 10‑20 %.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with specialty in avionics, flight deck architecture, or related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of civil aviation experience working on transport category airplane flight decks and avionics; five (5) or more years strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated work related to design integration and operation of avionics and/or flight deck systems on civilian transport category airplanes.
- Strong understanding of flight deck and avionics standards development at RTCA, ASTM, SAE, or similar.
- Former employment at airlines, FAA, or industry civil aviation segment is highly helpful.
- Special expertise in U.S. and Canadian Aviation Regulations, policies for continuing airworthiness, and standards development for avionics and flight deck technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and technical communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
10 %‑20 % travel required.
