We're recruiting an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support a major water sector programme, delivering full lifecycle mechanical designs from concept through to commissioning and handover. This is a long-term contract opportunity within a large, multi-disciplinary delivery environment, working on regulated water and wastewater capital projects.
The role
You'll be responsible for producing safe, compliant and buildable mechanical designs across a range of water and water recycling treatment assets. The role is remote/design-office based, with occasional site visits.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering mechanical and hydraulic designs from concept through detailed design to handover
Designing pumping systems, pipework, mechanical building services and treatment process equipment
Selecting and integrating package plant (screens, filters, chemical dosing, disinfection, pumping stations)
Designing mechanical equipment for hazardous areas in line with DSEAR requirements
Ensuring designs comply with statutory and client standards (including CDM, PUWER, LOLER, PSSR)
Supporting standardisation and development of repeatable design solutions
Working closely with civil, electrical and process engineers in an integrated team
Ensuring health & safety and "safe to operate" principles are embedded into all designs
About you
To be considered, you'll need:
HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
Strong practical experience delivering mechanical design within the water or wastewater sector
Proven experience with pumping systems, hydraulics and treatment plant equipment
Knowledge of modular build and construction methodologies
Working understanding of electrical, control and instrumentation interfaces
