Little More About Your Role…
  • Principal or Senior Transport Planner to join our Transport and Mobility Planning Team.
    Flexibility in location – any of WSP offices in Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff, London, Newcastle or Southampton – with a hybrid working policy.
  • Work alongside colleagues across the UK on transport, traffic and related infrastructure projects, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and Development Consent Orders (DCOs).
  • Responsible for Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, and play a hands‑on role in client and local authority scoping discussions.
  • Lead technical discussions around the accessibility of project / construction sites for various modes, articulating impacts and mitigations required to support planning approvals.
  • Work in a multi‑disciplinary environment, proactively collaborating with adjacent disciplines such as noise and air quality, ecology, and highway teams.
  • Takes ownership of delegated tasks such as fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Managers and Directors.
  • Up‑skilling knowledge to work across other transport work streams such as communications and engagement to support a balanced workflow.
  • Represent WSP values in a collaborative client/consultant environment and keep up to date with relevant standards and policies, raising WSP’s profile by networking and attending conferences.
  • Ensures projects are delivered within budget, programme and required technical standards.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
  • Experience of Scoping Reports, Transport Assessments and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters.
  • Experience of delivering transport planning projects and knowledge of relevant guidelines and standards.
  • Familiarity with Local Authority Transport Plans and Strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports and providing inputs into transport‑related business cases.
  • Strong numerical, spatial and analytical skills; excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools.
  • Ability to produce project reports, including technical documents to a high technical standard.
  • Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non‑technical clients, and present outputs from studies to a range of audiences.
  • Knowledge of current transport policy at sub‑regional, regional and national levels.
