The Instrumentation Technologist provides hands-on technical support for the installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems on EPCM and consulting projects. This role works closely with Instrumentation & Controls Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, contractors, and vendors to ensure instrumentation systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with design intent, specifications, and
project requirements. The Instrumentation Technologist is frequently engaged in field and site-based activities, supporting projects through construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.
Areas of Accountability
Instrumentation Installation & Field Support
Provide on-site technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning of instrumentation systemsSupport instrument installation, tubing and impulse line routing, hook-up, and terminationsReview installed instrumentation for compliance with drawings, specifications, and standardsAssist with resolution of field issues, RFIs, and deficienciesTesting, Commissioning & Start-up Support
Perform or support instrument loop checks, calibration, and functional testingSupport FAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activitiesAssist with troubleshooting instrumentation and signal issues during start-upDocument test results and support commissioning close-out documentationInstrumentation Design Support & Documentation
Support I&C Engineers with preparation and review of instrument data sheets, indexes, and I/O listsReview and mark up P&IDs, loop diagrams, and wiring drawingsUpdate documentation to reflect field changes and as-built conditionsCoordination & Communication
Interface with instrument vendors, contractors, system integrators, and site personnelCoordinate with electrical and controls teams to support integrated system deliveryCommunicate field progress, issues, and risks to the project teamQualification Requirements
Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or a related technical disciplineTypically 5+ years of experience supporting instrumentation and controls systems on EPCM or industrial projectsStrong hands-on experience with instrument installation, calibration, testing, and loop checksFamiliarity with pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical instruments, and control valvesAbility to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and specificationsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently in a field environmentWillingness to travel and work on-site as required by project needsWhat Catch Offers
