Job Description
The RPO plays the role of the pilot and other controllers in the Air Traffic Controller training simulator. The RPO operates a combination of a simulated radar display and voice communication system to simulate the actions and communication of pilots and remote ATC facilities during medium and high‑fidelity training exercises. RPOs receive voice commands from students, input proper entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, translate displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology, and respond to the student via the VCS utilizing proper phraseology.
The candidate will be required to complete the following certifications:
Classroom (pass test on airspace and procedures) and Lab (perform as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions).
- Operate simulated radar display and voice communication systems during training exercises.
- Respond to students’ voice commands and input accurate simulation controls.
- Translate displayed data into ATC terminology and phraseology.
- Execute required classroom and lab certification training.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) with basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to read and interpret technical materials such as diagrams and manuals.
- Clear, understandable verbal communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., Multimedia Developers, QA, Instruction System Designers, SMEs, Instructors).
- Experience and/or certification in ATC Tower, TRACON or En Route simulation labs.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of FAAO JO 7110.65 (preferred but not required).
- Strong team building skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Familiarity with current technology tools such as tablets, notebooks, and applications.
- Basic familiarity with pilot/controller communications or phraseology.
Target salary range: $40,001 – $80,000. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
