Position: Design Engineer (Transparency Systems)

Overview

As a Design Engineer at GKN Aerospace, you will develop and sustain aerospace products ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory and airworthiness requirements. This full‑time role (37 hours per week) offers flexible working hours, the option to work from home one day per week (subject to business need) and occasional national and international travel.

Responsibilities
  • Develop design solutions compliant with customer, regulatory and airworthiness requirements within assigned programs, budgets and timescales.
  • Create and maintain design definition documents (drawings, specifications, reports) detailing dimensions, materials, manufacturing process requirements and tolerances.
  • Understand the qualification process of products and prepare compliance documentation for internal, customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent Design Engineering in Integrated Program Teams and Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Identify and resolve product non‑compliances with drawings, specifications or standards, creating supporting documents such as permits, concessions and rework schemes.
  • Support internal and external technical reviews, including gate reviews by preparing technical data and presenting product design.

  • Ensure EHS policy and process adherence, promoting a proactive EHS culture.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical or relevant Engineering field.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to create clear, concise and accurate technical content.
  • Logical, methodical approach to task planning and evidence‑based decision making and problem solving.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Desirable:
    Previous experience in Aerospace sector.
  • Desirable:
    Experience of configuration control and change management.
  • Desirable:
    Awareness of Aerospace certification requirements.
  • Desirable:
    Experience of using CAD software, preferably CATIA V5.
  • Desirable:
    Experience of using SAP.
