Overview
Job Title: Electrical Power Systems Consultant – EMT/RMS Studies
Location: Remote
Contract Type: 6-month initial contract (inside IR35)
Start Date: 1st of February
The role involves supporting a range of transmission and renewable energy projects. The consultant will carry out detailed studies, contribute to grid connection work streams, and ensure compliance with Grid Code requirements. The role involves working across multiple projects, producing high-quality technical outputs, and collaborating with internal teams and OEMs. This is a fully remote position with no travel required.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, validate, and maintain EMT and RMS models for assets such as WTG, PPC, and STATCOM.
- Plan and execute design and Grid Code compliance studies, small disturbance and fault scenarios.
- Draft clear, audit-ready technical documentation for internal review and external compliance.
- Interface with OEMs for model provisioning, validation, and parameterization.
- Summarize study findings, recommend mitigations, and ensure adherence to technical standards.
- Degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering (BEng/MSc/PhD) or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with PSCAD for EMT studies (including add-ons/modules).
- Experience with DIgSILENT Power Factory for steady-state and RMS analyses.
- Strong understanding of vendor model parameterization and validation.
- Scripting/automation skills for workflows and post-processing.
- Proven ability to produce clear, technically robust reports for stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while following established methodologies and QA processes.
- Experience with National Grid ESO EMT guidelines.
- Knowledge of grid-forming controls or advanced STATCOM functionalities.
- Fully remote role; no travel required.
- Flexible allocation across multiple projects depending on priorities.
- Authorized to work in the UK.
- Contractor supplied with necessary software licenses.
