Offshore Geotechnical Engineer – Initial 12 Month Contract, Outside IR35
Kingston upon Thames, Surrey – 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week working from home.
OverviewAn Offshore Geotechnical Engineer is required to work on a long‑term contract basis based in Kingston‑upon‑Thames, Surrey. The role involves planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations to support the design and installation of offshore structures, including wind turbine foundations, oil & gas platforms, subsea pipelines, and seabed installations. The work focuses on foundation design and installation recommendations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
Responsibilities- Plan offshore site investigations by defining scopes of work and selecting appropriate sampling/testing methods (e.g., CPT, boreholes).
- Analyse soil data to interpret lab results and derive geotechnical parameters such as shear strength and stiffness.
- Prepare technical reports, compile Geotechnical Interpretive Reports (GIRs) and Foundation Design Reports (FDRs).
- Support foundation design by providing input for piles, suction caissons and shallow foundations.
- Perform pile analysis, calculate axial and lateral capacities, and assess installation feasibility.
- Assist engineering phases and contribute to FEED and detailed design stages with geotechnical expertise.
- Ensure standards compliance following ISO, API, DNV codes and client specifications.
- Manage geotechnical risks, participate in HAZID/HAZOP sessions and review third‑party deliverables.
- Uphold safety & quality, align with HSEQ policies and maintain personal and team safety.
- Coordinate and collaborate with engineering teams and report findings to stakeholders.
- 5–10 years of experience in offshore geotechnical roles involving pile and foundation design and installation activities.
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong skills in geotechnical data interpretation, shallow foundations, pile design/installation, and soil‑structure interaction.
- Proficiency in GRLWEAP, finite element analysis software (PLAXIS or ABAQUS).
