Fire Protection Engineer position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Fort Worth District, Engineering and Construction Division. Duty station:
Ft. Worth, TX.

Duties
  • Develop, draft, and review design plans, criteria, drawings, and technical specifications for fire prevention, fire protection, and life safety.
  • Review studies, scopes of work, and design plans prepared both in‑house and by outside architects/engineers to assure technical accuracy.
  • Provide technical guidance on the interpretation, rationale, and applicability of codes, regulations, and design criteria in the area of fire prevention, fire protection, and life safety.
  • Visit construction sites in the district to assist in the interpretation of design intent for the project’s fire prevention, protection, and life‑safety features.
Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.
  • Position may require TDY travel up to 25% of the time.
Qualifications
  • US citizens only.
  • Basic Requirement – Fire Protection Engineer GS‑0804‑12A. Degree:
    Bachelor’s in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or equivalent. (See detailed program requirements.)
  • Combination of Education and Experience – Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering and a good understanding of engineering sciences and techniques. Acceptable evidence includes:
    • Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern, Engineer in Training, or Professional Engineer.
    • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination.
    • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of relevant courses.
    • Related curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field plus at least 1 year of professional engineering experience.
  • Specialized Experience – One year of experience developing design specifications for fire prevention, fire protection, or life safety; reviewing final design plans relative to fire prevention, fire protection, and/or life safety; and/or working with architects and in‑house personnel to resolve design issues.
  • Note:

    For this position, education alone cannot substitute for required experience.

  • Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization that interprets foreign programs and determine equivalency to a U.S. accredited program.
