We are seeking a highly motivatedI&C System Design Engineer
for a long-term contract opportunity, with a remote work model. In this critical role, you will report directly to the I&C Safety System Design Manager and be instrumental in developing instrumentation and control systems for advanced nuclear technologies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and engineers, both internally and externally, while contributing to the integration and commissioning of cutting-edge energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a geographically diverse team to develop comprehensive design documentation, ensuring alignment and coordination across internal and subcontracted engineers.
  • Lead the design of I&C systems and subsystem functional requirements from concept through to final design and implementation.
  • Assist the I&C Safety System Design Manager in overseeing both team members and supplier performance in meeting project specifications.
  • Develop and review system-level specifications and scopes of work, ensuring compliance with nuclear codes, licensing requirements, and NRC regulations.
  • Provide technical direction on instrumentation measurement techniques suitable for advanced nuclear reactor applications, including evaluation of measurement accuracy, response time, and appropriate measurement ranges.
  • Analyze and apply relevant regulatory criteria to complex I&C system designs, ensuring high standards of safety and efficacy.
  • Generate technical documentation, including System Requirements Documents, Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, and Engineering Design Specifications.
  • Create comprehensive drawing packages for system and subsystem designs, including P&IDs, control system architecture, and loop diagrams.
  • Manage integrated design packages and oversee supplier projects, ensuring timely delivery of essential data and adherence to quality standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by staying informed on best practices within the nuclear industry and identifying opportunities for process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, integrating I&C with the work of other engineers, scientists, and subject matter experts.
  • Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports to ensure regulatory compliance.
Key

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Controls, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university, with
    18+ years
    of direct experience in instrumentation and controls systems.
  • Proven experience in instrumentation and controls development, diagnostics, and implementation for industrial I&C platforms.
  • Familiarity with nuclear reactor safety systems or instrumentation system design is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of standards such as IEEE 379, IEEE 603, IEEE 7-4.3.2, and IEEE 497 is preferred.
  • Understanding of quality assurance in nuclear power plant design control, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA-1 compliance.
  • Experience with high-temperature (400°C and higher) processes is a plus.
  • Proficiency in creating industrial process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping & instrument diagrams (P&) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works) for design deliverables is a plus.
  • Exceptional technical writing, communication, and presentation skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with the ability to coordinate team efforts with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks requiring multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • A high degree of integrity, open communication style, and a commitment to fostering teamwork.

Desirable

Experience:

  • Two or more years of relevant experience in areas such as Radiation Monitoring, High-Temperature Sensor Design, Seismic Detection and Trip Systems, or Neutron Detectors.
Working Conditions:
  • Standard working environment with hours greater than 8 hours per day, involving sitting, typing, and working with visual and auditory focus.
  • Minimal physical requirements, with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional travel (0-5%) may be required.
