Intermediate Structural Engineer (Mid-Senior Level) – Prince George, British Columbia, Canada

McElhanney is expanding its structural engineering team in Prince George, BC. Remote work or other McElhanney locations may be considered for the right candidate. As part of a small local team within a larger group of 30+ engineers, you will have the chance to advance your leadership, business‑development, and technical skills.

• Provide assessments, design, and field reviews for structural projects.
• Design municipal, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings using wood, steel, concrete, and masonry.
• Design shallow foundations for buildings, including pre‑engineered steel structures.
• Design civil structures such as retaining walls and utility structures.
• Conduct construction field reviews and structural condition assessments.
• Manage multidisciplinary projects and structural assignments locally.
• Prepare proposals and support business development.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff.

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in building structural design.
• Registered as a P.Eng. in British Columbia in good standing.
• Proven delivery of structural projects for public and private clients.
• Strong knowledge of national and provincial building codes (CSA A23.3, CSA O86, CSA S16, CSA S304).
• Proficiency with structural engineering software:
  Mathcad, SAFE, ETABS, RISA, Woodworks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a team‑oriented attitude.
• People‑management skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of individuals.
• Project‑management and proposal‑writing experience.
• Strong organizational skills and flexibility to manage changing priorities.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel) and quick learning of new software.
• Knowledge of fire protection, occupant safety, accessibility, energy efficiency, liquids retention, aluminum, and bridges is an asset.

Salary: $95,000 – $120,000 per annum (based on experience and qualifications).
