Overview

Traffic Engineering Technician role at Somerset Council based primarily at County Hall, Taunton, with remote work options as agreed. Full time, 37 hours per week. 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Giving technical advice on traffic management issues, including technical explanations of programmes and advice on the delivery of schemes.
  • Providing regular updates on the status of planned works to the Parking Team and wider Traffic Management Team.
  • Assisting the Traffic Engineer in the identification, design, prioritisation and issuing of orders for improvements and defect repairs.
  • Undertaking traffic design work which comprises onsite needs and designing of signage for road markings.
  • Managing a programme of works for your designated area.
Qualifications
  • Understand traffic regulations and highway legislation (e.g. Road Traffic Regulations Act, Traffic Signs Regulations, New Roads and Street Works Act).
  • Have an understanding of parking enforcement principles and standards of enforce ability.
  • Have previous experience in a Highways/Traffic Management environment with an understanding of traffic engineering principles and practices.
  • Have a HNC in Civil Engineering, or a similar field or significant relevant experience.
  • A full UK Driver’s License is essential.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to act on your own initiative to include problem solving and decision making.

Salary

Grade 11, ranging from £32,597 to £36,363 per annum.
