Senior Thermal Hydraulics Consultant
Salary range: £65,000 to £76,000 per annum
Location:
Manchester or Bristol
Working pattern: flexible hybrid – time split between office, client sites, and working from home.
About Frazer-Nash ConsultancyFrazer‑Nash has a strong presence within the nuclear sector, covering a range of disciplines. We are looking for nuclear thermal hydraulics consultants who can complement our team and support our clients across the new‑nuclear sector.
Responsibilities- Develop new and existing thermal hydraulics models of nuclear plants using a variety of modelling codes.
- Perform analysis of fault sequences and other system transients to inform design decisions and support safety case submissions.
- Provide technical expertise in understanding the complex thermal‑hydraulic phenomena predicted by the modelling.
- Provide model validation support and guidance.
- Continuously develop your technical expertise in thermal hydraulics and associated modelling codes.
- Communicate complex concepts and results to customers clearly and concisely.
- Develop and strengthen technical and commercial relationships with existing clients.
- Expand technical capability and client base across the new‑nuclear sector.
- Solid understanding of fluid flow, heat transfer, thermal hydraulics and multi‑phase flows.
- Experience applying and understanding nuclear thermal hydraulics systems codes (e.g., RELAP, GOTHIC, CATHARE, TRACE, VIPRE, S5K).
- A degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to independently manage and deliver projects to meet customer requirements.
- Experience writing proposals, client liaison and business development.
- Adept at communicating with clients and other stakeholders through meetings, presentations, written reports, commercial bids and technical discussions.
- An ability to code using Python, MATLAB or other software languages to support or optimise analysis and simulation.
- Experience providing technical and commercial leadership for small project teams.
- A relevant postgraduate degree.
Due to the nature of the work, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
