AboutThe Role
We are seeking a Project Engineer (Cabling) to join our Power Transmission & Distribution team, working on the BTNO Project. This key delivery role supports the Project Manager/Director and wider project team with accountability for the successful planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and close‑out of cabling works. You will play a central role in developing engineered delivery solutions and leading site teams to ensure works are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
Responsibilities- Lead and attend project reviews and meetings
- Maintain awareness of the Digital Briefcase
- Keep accurate project records (progress, daily diaries, etc.)
- Prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
- Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm and keep up to date with changes in legislation
- Responsible for safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
- Carry out Safety & Environmental Tours, promote observation and safety initiatives
- Conduct and support Accident/Incident Investigations
- Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvement solutions
- Write and review RAMS and accept subcontractor RAMS
- Identify, raise and report risks and hazards
- Ensure workforce sufficiency and competency
- Understand, control and issue safety documentation
- Complete audits
- Set site staffing and assist the Project Manager to lead risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes
- Log and escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated authority level
- Manage subcontractors, monitor contractor attendance and progress, provide instruction and support as necessary to achieve contractual arrangements
- Ensure procurement plans align with overall project plans, delivering materials/resources/supply chain on schedule
- Follow targets/KPI’s in line with project objectives and monitor performance
- Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and appropriate actions taken on findings
- Contribute to workshops covering the principles of continuous improvement
- Help develop, implement and periodically update resource‑loaded schedules
- Ensure the team adopts productivity and project controls techniques
- Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly meetings
- Ensure operational milestones reflect master schedule and customer expectations
- Control expenditure to stay within budget and utilise resources efficiently for cost control
- Identify elements for cost recovery from others
- Balance operational and commercial constraints in decision making
- Analyse, appraise and implement CEs
- Own Budget management
- Understand contract and commercial impact
- Manage commercial change
- Request plant and materials
- Motivate and empower the team using training, mentoring and performance management
- Formal qualification in construction/engineering or equivalent industry experience
- Desired: APM PFQ/PMQ or equivalent
- CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent
- Proficient in O365
- Organised, innovative and creative Project Engineer with knowledge and experience of commercial/project communication
- Experience in implementing safe systems of work
- Experience in managing risks and change processes through a solutions‑based approach to problem solving
- Good interpersonal skills enabling the development of working relationships at all levels across the business and the ability to negotiate and influence
- Competent and confident communicator of new concepts and ideas to technical and non‑technical stakeholders
