Polestar Technical Services, Inc. is seeking talented and dedicated individuals to join our team as an Air Quality and Environmental Engineering/Scientist. Our desired candidate will have non-radioactive air emissions technical experience.

Role and Responsibilities

This position will provide non-radioactive air emissions technical support including emission permitting, modeling, quality, and compliance to a variety of projects. This position interacts with other engineers, managers, DOE and regulatory oversight agencies (EPA, Washington State Department of Ecology and Washington State Department of Health). In this role the following activities will be performed:

  • Analyze and interpret data from air quality monitoring and observation
  • Conduct research on air pollutant emissions and the types of pollutants in different areas
  • Develop air quality management plans and policies
  • Prepare technical reports, documents, and presentations on air quality
  • Ensure compliance with air quality regulations and standards
  • Coordinate with environmental scientists, planners, hazardous waste technicians, engineers, and other specialists
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of air quality management plans and make necessary revisions
  • Advise government officials, businesses, or other groups on air quality issues, including regulatory compliance
  • Recommend solutions to reduce air pollution, such as changes in technology, processes, or materials
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • S. in Environmental Science, Engineering or relevant field with at least five years of work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years related to air quality regulations interpretation and implementation, permitting, modeling and reporting
  • Proven experience as an Air Quality Specialist or similar role
  • Experience in air dispersion modeling and meteorology
  • Experience calculating and analyzing emission estimates and source parameters for development of emission scenarios and regulatory compliance
  • Experience originating and checking engineering calculations
  • Deep understanding of air quality monitoring and control techniques
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal air quality regulations
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to prepare and present detailed reports
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office software suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills and well-demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education
  • Must be a United States citizen
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Experience supporting the DOE or the state of Washington on Air Quality activities
  • Experience with air dispersion modeling software (i.e., CAP
    88, AERMOD, and CALPUFF)
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Certificate of Completion for Plume Evaluation Training
  • Asbestos Hazards Emergency Response Act (AHERA) Building Inspector certification
  • 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification
  • Certificate of Competency for Incinerator Operations
  • Formal training in air dispersion modeling
  • Experience with chemical waste management
  • Moderate to advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Work Location

Work will be performed at the client site as well as from the Polestar office. Remote work may be coordinated up to one day per week.
