Water Resources Project Engineer

Overview

Freese and Nichols is currently searching for a highly motivated Project Engineer to lead stormwater management projects in our Florida offices. The candidate must have a strong background in the modeling of stormwater/water resources infrastructure projects and the preparation of drainage studies and impact analyses.

• Responsible for leading the analysis and preparation of technical reports for diverse projects including open channels, closed conduit systems, drainage master planning, reviews of proposed developments, stormwater pump stations, detention/retention ponds, mitigation of drainage impacts, transportation drainage design, regional flood planning, and preparation and review of FEMA flood studies as well as CLOMRs and LOMRs.

• Coordinate with and support project teams across FNI’s national offices; serve as a technical lead and provide direction and mentorship to junior staff.

• Work independently as well as oversee the work of teams of professionals and analysts; demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Support the management of small and large-sized projects, prepare and maintain project schedules, track project financials, prepare status reports, and interface with clients.

• 4+ years’ experience in stormwater management

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or comparable engineering or applied science degree)

• Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license (or the ability to become licensed in Florida within 6 months)

• Experience with a diverse range of software packages such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (steady, unsteady flow, and two-dimensional), ArcGIS Arc Map, and the Microsoft Office suite

• Experience with advanced H&H modeling software including Infoworks ICM, XP-SWMM, and ICPR 4, as well as ArcGIS Pro

• CFM Certification and/or experience in floodplain management practices

• Knowledge of FEMA Risk Map Program, Guidelines and Standards for Flood Risk Analysis and Mapping, preliminary and post-preliminary processing, and the Mapping Information Platform (MIP)

• Local experience and/or working relationships with clients in NE and SW Florida regions, including an understanding of FDEP and WMD criteria and permitting
