Position: Principal Engineer - SuDS (Blue Green Infra)

Overview

Principal Engineer - SuDS (Blue Green Infra) role at WSP in the UK & Ireland. You will join a team delivering surface water solutions using blue-green infrastructure and sustainable drainage practices, providing advice to clients and supporting engineers within the team.

What you will do
  • Provide technical input on urban drainage projects predominantly SuDS and blue-green infrastructure.
  • Work on bespoke, and challenging projects.
  • Have technical oversight of engineers and consultants, ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Support the development of engineering solutions, from feasibility studies to detailed design and construction.
  • Oversee the preparation of reports and supporting drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Develop and maintain excellent client relationships.
  • Be multi-disciplinary and client-facing, coordinating project meetings both internally and with clients.
  • Contribute to the learning of the wider team through knowledge sharing exercises.
  • Promote the WSP brand through appropriate industry forums and conferences.
Your team

As a Principal Engineer you will occupy a pivotal role within the Blue Green Infrastructure team and will have the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing development. The team comprises a mix of engineers with a wide range of industry experience, delivering projects across WSP’s client base.

Ways you could contribute
  • Public realm improvement schemes & SuDS retrofit.
  • Reviewing engineering designs for urban drainage projects.
  • Working on high-profile projects, including HS2, Smart Motorways.
  • Helping local authorities to prevent flooding to homes and businesses.
  • Developing fee proposals and winning work.
  • Managing budgets and projects to ensure successful delivery.
  • Ensuring the team remains highly skilled, engaged, and motivated to deliver.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
  • A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. civil or environmental engineering, construction, environmental science, geography).
  • Sound knowledge in urban drainage design and ability to check the technical outputs of others prior to issue.
  • Experience or understanding of hydraulic modelling, using industry-standard software (e.g. Info Works, FLOW).
  • A high degree of competence with AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with any industry-standard geographical information systems (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, Map Info).
