Position: Operations Engineer (Starshield)

OPERATIONS ENGINEER (STARSHIELD)

Space

X was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today Space

X is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

Starshield leverages Space

X's Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts. While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is designed for government use, with an initial focus on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads. As an electrical development engineer on the Starshield team, you will demonstrate extreme ownership through detailed and thorough design, hardware bring-up/characterization/testing, and requirements generation/verification – ultimately seeing your hardware through all aspects of its life cycle.

Starshield depends on the quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, throughput, and security of the products that we deliver. If you seek a fast-paced, dynamic environment; if you thrive on solving difficult problems where resolutions have a high impact; and if you love the challenge of building something from scratch, then this role will be an ideal next career step.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets for capital projects, monitoring progress and addressing deviations in real time.
  • Define new business processes and systems for high volume production, including manufacturing execution, inventory management, nonconformance resolution, configuration management, material traceability, process control, and maintenance.
  • Act as subject matter expert in multiple Starshield production processes and systems, enabling complex data gathering, troubleshooting, and problem solving.
  • Implement data acquisition and tracking for production and quality metrics, as well as environmental, testing, and safety controls.
  • Assist production/engineering leadership team to identify trends and opportunities for optimizing product output, quality enhancements, and cost of manufacturability.
  • Consistently contribute effort, leadership, and creative thinking to solving complex problems in a collaborative fashion and under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate across disciplines including engineering, production, test, inventory, quality, supply chain, and customer experience to ensure efficiency and consistency across the organization.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, software, industrial, or other engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial project management (collegiate extracurricular engineering projects such as lab projects, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly team, competitions, or internships qualify).
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Project management experience, particularly related to creating or overhauling cross-functional business processes.
  • Experience working with contractors on infrastructure projects across multiple disciplines.
  • Knowledge of database structures and SQL.
  • Understanding of lean engineering and Six Sigma concepts and their application.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets and communicating conclusions.
  • Experience supporting production of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Ability to identify customer needs, gather requirements, and execute independently.
  • Creative approach to problem solving and exceptional analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends when needed to meet major milestones.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 10%.
  • This position is based in Hawthorne, CA and requires being onsite – remote work not considered.
  • An active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive Space

X missions; if so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing.
