Job DescriptionThe Liveable Places team is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead sustainable transport and public realm improvement projects, primarily in London, from inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities- Design Management:
Oversee design processes, manage the design team, coordinate with other departments, and ensure delivery on time and within budget. - Project Management:
Plan, schedule, budget and allocate resources to keep project milestones on target. - Client Liaison:
Serve as the main point of contact for clients, keeping them informed of progress throughout the project. - Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate project risks effectively. - Quality Assurance:
Maintain the highest quality standards and resolve any issues promptly. - Team Leadership:
Motivate and manage the design team for efficient performance.
- Preparation of highways designs for construction projects and coordination with other disciplines.
- Design drafting (drawings, details, specifications, bill of quantities, calculations).
- Client and internal progress meetings, maintaining action trackers.
- Liaison with discipline leads, updating scheme programmes.
- Implementation of QA/QM procedures and Project Execution Plans.
- Maintenance of commercial risk registers.
- Support in preparing design H&S risk management plans and schedules.
- Coordination of technical discipline inputs and dissemination of information.
- Coordination of technical decision logs.
- Oversight of fee proposals and changes control documents.
- Preparation of task assignment documents and internal approvals.
- Financial reporting support, including forecasting.
- Preparation of RAMS for site surveys and participation in site visits.
- Updating project plans and managing document control via SharePoint.
- Planning and delivery of project deliverables and milestones.
- Raising orders for supply chain partners’ technical support.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in design and project management.
- Holder of a relevant professional qualification (IENG of CENg) or close to obtaining one.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to report to senior level.
- Proven track record of leading design projects from inception to completion.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
