Join Frazer‑Nash Consultancy as a Nuclear Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Engineer. We are looking for an experienced HVAC engineer to support the detailed design, installation and commissioning of HVAC systems within nuclear and associated facilities.
Title: Nuclear Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Engineer
Salary range: £35,000 to £45,000 per annum depending on experience
Location: Bristol, Gloucester, Burton or Manchester
Working Pattern: Flexible hybrid – split between office, client sites and working from home

- Develop and manage HVAC design requirements aligned with safety and performance criteria for nuclear projects and associated facilities.
- Undertake process equipment sizing and specification for ventilation and air handling systems.
- Conduct fluid flow and thermal process calculations to support system design.
- Generate system operating principles and functional descriptions.
- Produce design documentation including P&IDs, design reports, and HVAC equipment/system definition documents.
- Substantiate system designs through safety analysis and compliance assessments.
- Apply systems engineering tools and techniques such as functional modelling, Function Means Analysis (FMA), and decision analysis for concept generation and selection.
- Develop and manage structured Requirements, Evidence, Definition, and Verification data.
- Define and maintain functional interfaces between HVAC systems and other plant systems.
- At least 2 years of experience in HVAC system layout or component design.
- Evidence of effective technical delivery in nuclear new build or generation sectors.
- A degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline or a higher education qualification (minimum Higher National Diploma) in an engineering, design or building services discipline.
- Strong problem‑solving and teamwork skills.
- Skilled, clear and organised written and verbal communication.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as required.
- Professionalism in supporting new business and enhancing client relationships.
- Familiarity with reactor plant operating philosophy, standard procedures, and safety‑critical workflows.
- Knowledge and practical application of ALARP (As Low Reasonably Practicable) and BAT (Best Available Technique).
- Project management experience.
- Experience working in a consultancy environment.
- Working towards chartership with a professional institution (e.g., IMechE, CIBSE).
