Mark Thomas is growing and is adding licensed Roadway Project Engineers to our transportation teams! The role of a licensed Project Engineer is to take the lead in technical designs and to coordinate the necessary tasks required to complete small to medium size projects in conformity to the defined scope of work. This may include the coordination of project phases, time, and budgets.

The supervisory responsibilities include a role in training and guiding the development of design engineering staff and technicians. This position must maintain excellent communications with both upper management and entry‑level staff. The Project Engineer also assists with coordinating in‑house departments and sub‑consultants in the sharing of project information.

Responsibilities
  • Completes PS&E plan packages of limited complexity
  • Coordinates in‑house departments and sub‑consultant deliverables (including field surveying, structures, right of way, traffic, geotechnical and environmental elements)
  • Prepares technical reports with reasonable independence
  • Takes responsible charge of engineering deliverables for certain components of projects or for small projects in their entirety
  • Ensures lower engineering staff, technicians & interns use current standards and efficiently apply appropriate software
  • Coordinates and supports construction activities
  • Verifies accuracy of project plans, cost estimates, quantities, reports, and exhibits
  • Applies knowledge of engineering procedures to applicable projects and assignments
  • Participates at a committee level in professional organization
  • Mentors and manages internal design team efforts
  • Conducts internal technical training to staff to ensure compliance with drafting standards, project requirements, and current engineering practices
  • Gains knowledge of scope, budgets, agreements, and financial reporting systems
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering; MS in Engineering is a plus
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or PE in another state with ability to obtain CA licensure within one year
  • 4‑6+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and lead design groups
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil‑3D, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office, including MS Project, Teams, etc.
  • Proficiency in general engineering principles, statics, dynamics of structures and general engineering design
  • Knowledge of engineering procedures (right of way acquisition, environmental clearance, utility relocation)
  • Knowledge of construction practices
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities
