Job Title: UPS Field Service Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $95,000 – $102,000 per year

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled UPS Field Service Engineer to bring expertise in power electronics and critical power systems to our team. This home-based role requires travel to customer sites within the region to perform start‑ups, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of UPS and related equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commission, maintain, and provide emergency support for power electronics equipment at customer sites within your regional area.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews focused on commissioning, develop test procedures and reports, and manage on‑site testing activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, respond to emergencies, and execute equipment start‑ups or field modifications as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions at company headquarters covering OEM units, SOPs, testing tools, and system rebuilds.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in collaboration with the support team to resolve equipment maintenance or operational challenges.
  • Contribute to the creation and improvement of Methods of Procedures (MOPs) and consult with supervisors on complex issues.
  • Complete timely and accurate Field Service Reports after each assignment.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • 3 to 5+ years’ experience in critical power electronics, with ability to troubleshoot to component level on equipment such as UPS, batteries, PDUs, and STS units.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent customer service orientation.
  • Proven ability to work independently and demonstrate resourcefulness.
  • Physical capability to perform repeated bending and lifting up to 100 lbs as required.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Familiarity with general computer hardware and software applications.
  • Previous experience with 3rd‑party UPS service is a plus.
  • UPS OEM factory training or experience with Liebert/Emerson/Vertiv, APC/MGE/Schneider, Eaton/Powerware is required.
  • Technical degree or military experience/training considered a plus.
Education
  • Technical graduate from a two‑year accredited engineering or technical school
  • 3‑5 years technician experience in related power electronics field
  • Competitive salary within $95,000 – $102,000 range
