Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Alternate Delivery (Transportation) – Terracon

Terracon has a fantastic opportunity to join our growing Alternate Delivery organization. This group works on larger transportation projects across the US, and the position can be filled anywhere in the US. In this role, you will provide engineering and consulting services for transportation projects and clients, including field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports.

You will review drawings and construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, prepare proposals and cost estimates, track project progress and budgets, and resolve design and construction problems. You will assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports and communicate complex engineering issues to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for existing or proposed transportation projects.

Project management and/or technical leadership experience for large-scale transportation projects is preferred, with the ability to manage all aspects of a geotechnical engineering project, including project teams, to ensure safe, on-time, within-scope, and within-budget delivery.

• Development of Site Characterization reports including a geotechnical/geological narrative of site conditions along the alignment to identify difficult ground conditions and project risks.
• Provide geotechnical design recommendations and supporting documentation for earthwork, considering planned cuts/fills, for estimating construction quantities and assessing impacts to project improvements.
• Geotechnical design recommendations and supporting documentation for bridge and wall foundations (shallow and deep).
• Geotechnical analysis to support retaining wall recommendations for individual retaining structures or groups with similar conditions.

• External stability analysis (bearing resistance, sliding, overturning, eccentricity)
• Settlement analyses (short-term, total, rate)
• Rotational stability
• Identify geotechnical risk items that may impact design and/or construction costs/schedules

• Lead safety efforts for the team and ensure safety rules are followed.
• Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects; ensure best practices and quality control.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering work involving conventional and complex features.
• Provide technical direction for production and completion of unique or complex projects.
• Manage the team in conceptualizing initial design/investigative approach for major transportation projects or segments.
• Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to meet targets.
• Review projects requiring complex investigations and supervise analysis and written recommendations; provide technical review of reports.
• Coordinate with lead project accountant for financial management, invoicing, and collections.
• Lead technical training and apply state-of-the-art technology to project work.
• Mentor and coach key project team members.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering;
  Master’s preferred
• Minimum 8–11 years of experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration
• Transportation experience with DOTs is required
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history

This position is categorized as a Remote Only position. Remote employees typically work from home or another location and do not have a designated office workspace.

Salary:
The national standard salary range is $101,200–$156,900. The base range may be adjusted based on location. Final compensation is based on qualifications and experience.
