Overview

Position Title: Director of Institutional Research

Department: Academic Affairs

Classification: Administrative - Staff, Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to: Vice President for Academic Affairs and University Provost

Location: Remote within the continental US, with the ability to travel to campuses and other locations. Candidates located in vicinity of one of Antioch University’s 5 national campuses preferred.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and University Provost, the Director of Institutional Research is responsible for all university-level institutional research functions, including but not limited to the development of a comprehensive institutional research program to support the University’s mission. The Director is a member of the University Office of Academic Affairs team and works collaboratively with the Cabinet, governance committees, and offices across the university to assure a comprehensive approach to institutional effectiveness.

The Director serves as a chief data advisor to support strategic planning, accreditation compliance, academic planning, retention and degree completion, program reviews, student learning outcomes, enrollment projections and other processes requiring strategic analysis. This includes conducting periodic environmental scans to stay apprised of external and internal threats and opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The OIR Director will carry out duties and responsibilities with a great degree of independence, accountability, and confidentiality.

A. Leadership:

  • Direct the personnel and operations of the OIR.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate personnel.
  • Establish standards for data management, including data definitions, data coding standards, and enterprise database designs.
  • Develop, implement and oversee the university's Institutional Research Plan.
  • Assist the business office budgeting, planning and resource allocation processes.
  • Co-chair the Data Governance Committee.
  • Modernize university processes by identifying university needs (such as surveys, evaluations, assessments, and reporting) that can be addressed by software tools, and help in selecting appropriate analytical tools.
  • Promote a culture of data-informed decision-making by providing training, consultation, and tools that improve data literacy among faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • B. Institutional Research and Reporting:

  • Provide direction, leadership, and information to the university administration, faculty and staff related to the interconnectedness between strategic plan, institutional effectiveness, assessment, and budget. Develop and update content and presentation of OIE data on Antioch University website for both internal and external consumption.
  • Ensure compliance with required data reporting and completion of external surveys for internal and external audiences and agencies, such as enrollment, budget, registration. Serve as the IPEDS keyholder, and work with the University Registrar on oversight of the National Student Clearinghouse process.
  • Plans and implements performance-related research studies, including selecting and analyzing data, preparing statistical and narrative reports, designing appropriate research and visual communication methods, and recommending the further collection of required data elements by administrative and academic staff;
  • Develop databases and reports for internal and external (federal- and state- mandated accountability reporting and grant reporting) audiences in areas including but not limited to:
    • Enrollment, Revenue and Cost Analysis
    • Student Persistence and Completion
    • Academic Assessment
  • Support the University’s academic assessment system and other activities associated with the assessment of student learning and student success.
