Overview
The Term Instructor of Social Work is a full-time, nine-month, bipartite (teaching and service) faculty position within the University of Alaska Fairbanks, College of Liberal Arts, Social Work Department. This role supports the B.A. in Social Work degree, which is delivered through online asynchronous, distance-based Zoom, and hybrid modalities, including our rural-intensive cohort. The faculty member will teach three to four courses per semester—including SWK F103:
Introduction to Social Work and upper-division 300-level major courses—while also recruiting, advising, mentoring, and supporting a diverse student population.
- Provide high-quality instruction across all program modalities; develop and modify curriculum for distance delivery.
- Maintain office hours appropriate to the courses taught.
- Engage in service activities, including participation in departmental, college, and university committees; contribute to community and public service activities; support program accreditation processes; and serve as faculty advisor for at least one student organization.
- Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program and at least two years of post-MS W professional social work practice in human services, behavioral health, child welfare, or related community-based settings.
- Previous university-level teaching or training experience in social work or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with Alaska Native, Indigenous, or rural populations, cultural competence, and community engagement.
- Experience teaching or developing distance-delivered or online coursework.
- Commitment to public service and community collaboration aligned with the University of Alaska Fairbanks mission.
- Location:
Troth Yhiorda Campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. Flexible on-site, hybrid, or remote work arrangements within Alaska or the United States, in accordance with UA regulations. - Appointment type:
