This position is a part-time faculty appointment in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) at Northern Arizona University. The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding.
Special Information- This position is eligible for on-site, hybrid, or remote work.
- On-site work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

The School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) is known for its student-centered approach and emphasis on hands-on learning and research. We offer undergraduate and graduate degrees with approximately 60 faculty, about 1,200 undergraduate students and 500 graduate students. The department emphasizes close faculty-student interaction, mentoring, and collaborative research, partnering with local and national organizations to apply engineering solutions to real-world problems, especially those relevant to Arizona and the Southwest.
Aboutthe Position
Northern Arizona University seeks applicants for a part-time faculty member in SICCS. The position involves teaching and service in computer science and computer systems engineering, with an emphasis on programming and software engineering.
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed. The pool is intended to provide opportunities to industry partners and community professionals to serve as NAU instructors of record as their skills and experience align with the needs of the college and its students. The number of positions will vary by semester and may arise on short notice.
The pool will remain in place for one academic year (August–May). If not interviewed/selected for a position within the current academic year, a new application will be required. If you are no longer interested, please withdraw your application.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and software engineering.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment; OR
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related discipline, with 3 to 4 years of industry experience in the field.
- A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.
- Experience with modern pedagogical practices and tools.
- Industry experience in software or systems engineering.
- Demonstrated experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Course development; ability to teach in computer science.
Anticipated compensation is $2,000 per credit unit. Compensation is commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and related experience.
