Technology Requirements: Personal Computer owned or controlled by the individual, excluding tablets or Chromebooks. Smartphone or tablet for two-factor identification. Unrestricted high-speed internet access.
POSITION SUMMARYFacilitates an instructional program aligned to state standards in an online environment, guiding students to reach academic potential. Works part-time, supporting up to 70 students per semester, 55 per trimester, and 45 per summer term. Requires daily engagement (Monday‑Friday) with at least one weekly office hour (1 hour between 8 am‑7 pm). Must log in daily, respond to students, mentors, parents, or stakeholders within 24 hours, and provide assignment feedback within 72 hours (96 hours for ELA Advanced Placement and select social studies courses).
Demonstrates professional and ethical standards, maintains expertise, and adapts instructional plans. Supports instruction in specific content areas (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Electives, or World Language) using MV course materials. Term-by-term appointment, no more than 19 hours per week.
- Facilitates instructional activities and supplemental materials for Michigan Virtual students in certified content areas.
- Provides all required instructor contact information in the course profile, including MV email and phone number.
- Maintains regular communication with MV staff, students, parents, and school personnel within 24 hours during daytime hours.
- Maintains at least one office hour per week between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm posted in the profile.
- Provides detailed feedback, grading, and assessment of student work within 72 hours (96 hours for ELA, AP, and select social studies courses).
- Maintains accurate records of student progress, assessments, and active participation in online discussion forums; contacts students regularly about progress.
- Engages in developing a virtual class culture, including weekly course announcements.
- Updates all required records accurately and completely, including special education tracking documents.
- Prepares required monthly progress updates, attendance, and academic reports; submits final term scores within one week of term end.
- Attends an in-person annual two‑day professional development event (Collaboration of the Minds, August) and two virtual departmental meetings per school year; optional additional events.
- Performs other duties as assigned. All responsibilities are subject to performance goals or targets established annually.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid secondary teaching certificate in the specific content area with Highly Qualified designation.
- Minimum of one to three years of successful teaching at the middle or high school level.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree or higher preferred (Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, content‑specific).
- Successful experience teaching online and/or blended learning preferred.
