Looking to build your CPD, share best practice with a community of subject experts and further inspire your teaching? AQA is recruiting A-level and GCSE Geography examiners for summer 2026. This flexible role fits alongside a full-time teaching job and is completed online from home.

Responsibilities
  • Review student responses and apply the mark scheme accurately and consistently to ensure fair results.
  • Commit an average of 15 to 20 hours a week to marking during the exam period.
  • Mark around 120 papers for A-level and 200 for GCSE.
  • Complete your marking over approximately one month. Full details of your allocation, deadlines and earnings will be confirmed when you receive your contract.

What you need
  • Preferably three full terms teaching Geography within the last five years. We welcome applications from trainee teachers and ECTs for Geography, subject to requirements.
  • A senior referee who can verify your relevant experience.
  • Preferably a degree, teaching qualification or equivalent in Geography.
  • Take part in standardisation, which gives you the chance to practise applying the mark scheme before marking begins. Standardisation typically takes a few hours and fits around your existing commitments.
  • Availability during the marking and standardisation period.

  • GCSE:
  • Paper:
    Challenges in the human environment. Standardisation open: 16 and 17 June. Marking period: 18 June to 10 July.
  • Paper:
    Geographical applications. Standardisation open: 23 and 24 June. Marking period: 25 June to 17 July.
  • A-level:
  • Paper:
    Physical Geography. Standardisation open: 24 and 25 May. Marking period: 26 May to 20 June.
  • Paper:
    Human Geography. Standardisation open: 3 and 4 June. Marking period: 5 June to 30 June.
