Do you have a passion for working with children/young people but don’t want to work in a classroom setting? We are looking for candidates who enjoy working outdoors, are confident cyclists and passionate about cycling to deliver our Bikeability cycle training programme.
Start date is as soon as possible and fixed term to 31st March 2027. This may be extended in line with future funding agreements.
About the Role
During your employment we will fully support your journey to becoming a fully qualified Cycle Instructor; once qualified you will receive a 1st4
Sport Level 2 award in Instructing Cycle Training.
You will be on an annualised hours contract but will be expected to maximise your diary (Monday – Friday) during term time (38 weeks). The earliest start time would be 08:45am and latest finish time would be 03:30pm to fit the school day. You will be on an annualised hours contract and mostly working Monday-Friday around the school day, for the 38 weeks during term-time, however it is important that you have the flexibility to undertake work after school to run additional sessions or in the holidays to support the team with maximising Bikeability targets.
You will actively promote safe & active travel initiatives by delivering a programme of Bikeability Cycle Training to school children. The role will involve you in delivering all three levels of Bikeability Training plus Learn to Ride, in both an on and off-road environment, progressing the rider s skills and confidence to enable them to ride in more complex road environments.
The training follows a recognised national delivery standard.
This post is home based with responsibility for managing your own bookings, workload and allocated number of schools. You will be required to actively promote training and your availability to schools to ensure a full programme of Bikeability training is booked and delivered.
You will be required to store / transport your bike (ridden and driven) and all necessary equipment to training locations throughout the county so therefore you must have access to a car, hold a valid current driving license and have business insurance for work journeys as required.

The nature of this work may involve you carrying out work outside of normal working hours so therefore you will need to be flexible in your approach to the working week. Some duties will have to be undertaken at short notice, and the actual working period may vary from day to day to match service needs.
From time to time, you will be required to attend, training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as essential for your own training needs and the needs of the service and be committed to continuing professional development.
