Adjunct (Instructor/Lecturer) Part‑time Position in Intermediate Coptic (HDS Summer Language Program 2026)
Harvard Divinity School seeks an adjunct instructor/lecturer in Intermediate Coptic (2nd year of translation study) to teach an eight‑week intensive course on intermediate Coptic from June 15, 2026 to August 6, 2026, as part of the Summer Language Program. This class will meet online only for the duration of the program (synchronously).
This is a term‑limited summer appointment only (from June 1 to August 31, 2026) and will not be continued into the academic year. HDS will not sponsor work‑visas for this short‑term, temporary position.
The teaching material covers the target language at the intermediate to advanced intermediate competency (equivalent to the second year of college instruction in Syriac). One year (equivalent of two semesters at the college‑level) is required as a pre‑requisite to take this course. Please note that the running of the course is dependent upon sufficient enrollment by the Final date to receive applications of May 4, 2026.
Applicants should be competent in the target language and have previous experience in college/university online teaching. The appointment title will depend on the finalist’s qualifications. Ph.D. or other advanced terminal degree required.
PLEASE NOTE :
This is not a benefits‑eligible position with a schedule of 9 hours of instruction /week. This is a hybrid position and this position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Additional detail pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington).
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications: (1) completed advanced degree, (2) previous teaching experience of Coptic at all levels. Previous publications are desirable, but not required.
