Years spent building real chess expertise were not meant for teaching fundamentals. You seek students who engage, challenge, and return eager for more. You are here to develop champions. If this describes you, this position is the right fit.
GT School serves gifted K‑8 learners who pursue high‑stakes learning rather than casual enrichment. This position focuses on transforming talented players into assured competitors who deliver under pressure. You will facilitate live virtual workshops, provide tournament‑oriented coaching, and develop reusable instructional materials that elevate standards across GT Anywhere and GT campuses.
This is far from conventional chess tutoring. GT recruits accomplished competitors, not general instructors. You will engage with driven students, defined skill tiers, and quantifiable objectives. Strong performance manifests in rating improvements, sharper decision‑making under time constraints, and tournament outcomes that families value.
If you possess elite chess accomplishments, can instruct effectively on camera, and wish to guide the next wave of champions, we are interested in speaking with you.
What You Will Be Doing- Deliver 2–4 live virtual domain workshops weekly (60–90 minutes) covering advanced strategy, tactical patterns, and competitive play
- Evaluate each student's current level and modify instruction so every session challenges, engages, and builds confidence
- Prepare students for upcoming tournaments via mock matches, game analysis, and tailored development plans
- Monitor student advancement against benchmarks and leverage game data to address the most critical skill gaps
- Develop reusable curriculum materials, puzzles, and strategic resources that other specialists can implement reliably
- Deliver casual beginner instruction that lacks competitive focus
- Invest time in administrative meetings or navigating slow, multi‑layered bureaucracy
- Provide generic, standardized coaching that disregards a student's objectives and tournament schedule
- Operate without evidence of impact—measurable results and progress define success
Key Responsibilities
This position ensures that gifted K‑8 chess students achieve competition readiness and secure measurable success in tournaments that validate GT School's real‑stakes commitment to families.
Basic Requirements- Demonstrable elite chess accomplishment (FIDE title, national/state ranking, high rating, or significant tournament victory)
- Minimum 6 months of teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with documented examples of student progress
- Capacity to explain advanced concepts in clear language that gifted K‑8 students can implement in games
- Effective virtual presence and proficiency in facilitating high‑energy sessions via video
- Availability for 5–10 hours per week Dependable internet connection and professional video equipment appropriate for live instruction
- Willingness to submit credentials or a portfolio for verification
