School of Continuing Education (SCE) is the largest provider of professional development in southeastern Wisconsin, offering year‑round lifelong learning through short courses, workshops, and certificate programs. UWM SCE delivers online and blended instruction as well as educational opportunities through traditional classroom interaction in downtown Milwaukee and customized, onsite instruction at business locations and other unique venues throughout the city, region, and country.
The SCE is seeking an individual to serve as Workforce Development Program Manager. This full‑time (40 hours per week) position is located in the UWM SCE downtown office. After a 6‑month probationary period, the successful candidate may work from home one day per week.
The WFD Program Manager will support SCE’s commitment to leading change through competency‑based programming, cultivating local and global collaborations, and introducing innovative programming to remain responsive to customer needs and workforce changes. Primary responsibilities include outreach to employers in corporate and non‑profit organizations to identify unmet training needs for business and technical roles, and identifying candidates likely to succeed in these programs and secure promotions or new employment.
Key Job Responsibilities- Supervises the implementation of non‑credit continuing education‑focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives
- May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
- Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the non‑credit program in alignment with the strategic plan
- May monitor the unit or program budget and approve program expenditures
- Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new non‑credit programs or services
- Identify training gaps to meet employer needs in high‑demand business, health, and technical areas.
- Build and maintain relationships within local business, health, and technology as well as professional organizations to understand needs and trends.
- Create new courses and programs to prepare individuals for in‑demand jobs.
- Recruit, hire, and coach instructors for new business, health, and technical courses and programs.
- Initiate new program areas for program revenue generation, determine curriculum, investigate subject matter expertise needs, and locate instructors.
- Write and submit training proposals for customized training and generate additional program revenue.
- Monitor enrollments, evaluate program activity, and use data to identify strategic marketing needs/opportunities.
- Coordinate with SCE marketing staff to develop marketing plans—defining audiences, writing copy, and course descriptions when necessary.
- Review and approve marketing pieces.
- Manage the scheduling of activities related to public and customized training programs, including conferences (instructor, participant, rooms, refreshments, and materials).
- Work with the director to develop and manage the budget of the assigned program area(s) and ensure positive financial outcomes and overall profitability in managed program areas.
$54,000 to $58,000 (final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience)
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Three years of relevant work experience including technology, health and business.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software
- Ability to maintain flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends when necessary to support programs
- Experience working in business, artificial intelligence, technology, and health industries.
- Master’s degree in related subject matter such as adult education, business, health, and technology.
