Location: Farmingdale

Provides one-to-one tutorial instruction in a home based or school environment, which would be directed at supporting a student to become more independent, behaviorally or academically, in a school and/or community setting. Direct instructional services by the tutor might range from the developing of basic daily living skills to the support of academic skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides daily and long-range instructional lesson and classroom activity planning, consultation and supervision with regular and special education teachers as necessary.
  • Plans and initiates individual learning experiences with individual and/or small groups of students with supervision of identified special education teacher.
  • Prepares instructional materials and activities as required.
  • Performs clerical work as may be assigned.
  • Provides supervision and direct assistance in the discipline of student(s).
  • Attends I.E.P. Team and other meetings as requested by immediate supervisor(s) and participates in developing I.E.P.s for individual students as requested.
  • Other duties may be assigned by immediate supervisor(s).
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
  • Four (4) years of college education, certified Special Ed. Teacher
  • Previous experience with children with special needs or adults in a tutorial setting, either home based or in a school setting is desirable
Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents and/or staff.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER

SKILLS And ABILITIES
  • Ability to operate computers and photocopying machines.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
