Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Online Chess Instructor - Part-Time, gt.school (Remote) - $37,500/year USD

You did not invest years building legitimate chess credentials to cover elementary tactics. You seek students who engage, challenge ideas, and return eager for more. You aim to develop champions. If that describes you, this role is a strong match.

GT School serves academically gifted K–8 students who demand high‑stakes learning over casual enrichment. This position is designed to transform talented players into poised competitors who deliver results under pressure. You will facilitate live online workshops, provide tournament‑centered coaching, and develop reusable instructional materials that elevate standards across GT Anywhere and GT campus programs.

This is not standard chess tutoring. GT recruits accomplished competitors, not general instructors. You will engage with driven students, defined proficiency levels, and concrete objectives. Success in this role is visible through rating improvements, sharper decision‑making under time constraints, and tournament outcomes that families value.

If you possess elite‑level chess accomplishments, teach effectively on camera, and are motivated to guide emerging champions, we invite your application.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Facilitate 2–4 live online domain workshops weekly (60–90 minutes each) covering advanced strategy, tactical patterns, and competitive principles
  • Evaluate individual student proficiency and tailor instruction to ensure each session is challenging, engaging, and builds confidence
  • Prepare students for tournament competition through practice games, game analysis, and customized development plans
  • Monitor student advancement relative to benchmarks and leverage game data to address the most impactful skill gaps
  • Develop reusable curricula, puzzle sets, and strategic resources that other instructors can implement with consistency
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Deliver casual beginner instruction that lacks competitive focus or measurable outcomes
  • Allocate time to administrative meetings or navigate slow, multilayered organizational processes
  • Provide standardized, generic coaching that disregards individual student objectives and tournament schedules
  • Operate without evidence of effectiveness—measurable results and documented progress are central

  • Minimum 6 months of teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with demonstrable examples of student advancement
  • Capacity to explain advanced concepts in accessible language that gifted K–8 students can implement in competitive play
  • Confident virtual presence and proficiency in delivering engaging sessions via video platform
  • Availability to commit 5–10 hours weekly
  • Dependable internet connection and professional‑quality video equipment for live instruction
  • Willingness to supply credentials or a portfolio for validation
