Job Summary

The Repository Services Librarian advances the sharing and stewardship of UW–Madison’s scholarly outputs by serving as the service lead and primary user support contact for MINDS@UW, the university’s institutional repository. Because MINDS@UW serves the entire Universities of Wisconsin system, this role also supports librarians across all 13 institutions in effectively using the repository to meet the needs of their campus communities.

Reporting to the Head of Research and Digital Scholarship Strategy, this position will be collaborating closely with colleagues in Libraries IT and Research Data Services, this position plays a key role in enhancing the repository to support both current and emerging research needs. Responsibilities include monitoring, maintaining, and improving repository services, as well as contributing to communication and outreach activities.

This is an exciting moment to join the Data & Digital Scholarship Services team. The Repository Services Librarian will help implement a new service roadmap, establish priorities, and refresh policies and workflows. The librarian will partner with a Repository Developer in Libraries IT on these improvements and help shape the future direction of MINDS addition, the librarian will contribute to broader discussions and initiatives related to library resource discovery, open scholarship and scholarly communication, and digital collection development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as service lead for the institutional repository (IR) platform and service.
  • Serve as primary contact for user support of the IR service.
  • Provide training and conduct outreach to current and potential IR user communities, including Universities of Wisconsin system librarians.
  • Maintain and improve IR policies and workflows.
  • Coordinate with Repository Developer as well as internal and external partners to develop roadmaps and implement projects to improve features and workflows.
  • Curate submitted research data for the IR and the Data Curation Network.
Position Details

This position is eligible for partial remote work. A remote work agreement may allow for a maximum of 60% remote per week. This position is full-time, 100%. Ongoing/Renewable.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Initiates and solicits input to modify policies, procedures, and assessment tools to improve workflows and/or user experiences (15%).
  • Serves on committees to advance librarianship at the campus, local, and/or state and national levels (5%).
  • May direct the day‑day activities of student workers (5%).
  • Provides expertise in the analysis, planning, development, and deployment of resources to search, manipulate, and preserve information (10%).
  • Oversees day‑day functions of one or more library operations or services (15%).
  • Identifies and evaluates preservation and curation needs and determines preservation strategies (10%).
  • Performs complex acquisition processes, including bibliographic searching, vendor assignments, determination of holdings, and choice of entry and database record format (0%).
  • Provisions access to and discovery of electronic resources, coordinates online access, and troubleshoots issues to provide library patrons with consistent access (10%).
  • Consults with campus entities on preservation, curation, and data services solutions (15%).
  • Serves as a resource to other librarians and staff both within and outside of their work unit on a regular basis (15%).
  • Creates processes and maintains the most complex metadata records for the purposes of resource discovery, access, and inventory control, by following local and national cataloging and metadata standards and exercising a significant degree of independent judgement (0%).
Compensation and Benefits
