Online Teaching, Tutoring
You earned serious chess credentials to work with players who want to improve—not to repeat fundamentals indefinitely. You seek students who focus, challenge ideas, and return ready for more. You want to develop champions. If this describes you, this opportunity is a fit.
GT School serves gifted K–8 students seeking high‑stakes education rather than casual enrichment. This position is designed to transform talented players into self‑assured competitors who excel under pressure. You will deliver live virtual workshops, provide tournament‑preparation coaching, and develop repeatable instructional materials that elevate standards across GT Anywhere and GT campuses.
This is not a standard chess tutoring position. GT hires accomplished competitors, not general instructors. You will engage with driven students, defined skill tiers, and concrete objectives. Effective performance in this role is reflected in rating improvements, enhanced decision‑making under time constraints, and tournament outcomes that families value.
If you hold elite chess accomplishments, can instruct effectively on camera, and wish to guide the next wave of champions, we invite your application.
What You Will Be Doing- Deliver 2–4 live virtual domain workshops each week (60–90 minutes) covering advanced strategy, tactical concepts, and competitive patterns
- Evaluate individual student ability and tailor instruction so each session remains challenging, engaging, and builds confidence
- Prepare students for scheduled tournaments via practice matches, game analysis, and customized development plans
- Monitor student advancement against performance benchmarks and leverage game data to address the most critical improvement areas
- Develop reusable curricula, puzzle sets, and strategic resources that other specialists can implement reliably
- Deliver introductory lessons for casual learners that lack competitive focus
- Allocate time to administrative meetings or multi‑layered bureaucratic processes
- Conduct standardized, universal coaching that disregards student objectives and tournament schedules
- Operate without measurable impact—demonstrable results and progress are central
Key Responsibilities
This role ensures that gifted K–8 chess students reach competition readiness and achieve measurable tournament success that validates GT School's real‑stakes commitment to families.
Basic Requirements- Documented elite chess achievement (FIDE title, national/state ranking, high rating, or significant tournament victory)
- Minimum 6 months of teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with concrete evidence of student advancement
- Capacity to present advanced principles in accessible language that gifted K–8 students can implement in gameplay
- Effective virtual presence and proficiency in leading dynamic sessions via video
- Availability for 5–10 hours per week
- Dependable internet connection and a professional video configuration appropriate for live teaching
- Ability to supply credentials or a portfolio for validation
