We have an exciting opportunity for a Designated Safeguarding Lead at King’s Inter High to support the welfare and protection of the young people who attend our school. You will work primarily from home in this remote position, reporting to the school’s Executive Headteacher. This specification outlines the extent of the duties and responsibilities related to the DSL element of the role.

To strengthen our key objectives of quality, scalability, and educational excellence, we are seeking a dedicated Designated Safeguarding Lead. The successful candidate will have experience in education and safeguarding of children, taking lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school. As a school with young people living internationally, you will familiarise yourself with international practices and liaise with organisations around the world.

Our school has several leaders with DSL-level training who support their teams on a Key Stage level. This DSL role aims to ensure safeguarding oversight in the school, working alongside the Executive Headteacher to ensure effective planning, coordination and strategic deployment of high‑quality safeguarding routines, tracking and monitoring. The successful candidate will also take part in strategy discussions and inter‑agency meetings, contribute to the assessment of children, and advise and support other staff on child welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters, liaising with relevant agencies such as local authorities – domestic and international.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and update child protection files on the school's safeguarding platform, ensuring confidentiality and security.
  • Maintain detailed records of concerns, follow‑ups, actions, decisions, and outcomes, including referral information.
  • Control file access strictly to authorised personnel, adhering to KCSIE information sharing guidelines.
  • Securely transfer child protection files to new schools, confirming receipt and sharing additional information as appropriate.
  • Provide support and advice to staff on safeguarding, liaise with safeguarding partners, and inform leadership of significant issues.
  • Collaborate with SEN Services and external agencies on student wellbeing and mental health, and engage parents in safeguarding efforts.
  • Lead in promoting educational outcomes for children with safeguarding needs, tracking their progress and supporting staff in addressing their educational needs.
  • Manage referrals to local authority children's social care, the Channel programme, DBS, and police, and seek MASH advice when needed.
  • Raise awareness by ensuring staff understand child protection policies, reviewing policies annually, and promoting educational outcomes for vulnerable children.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Qualified to degree level (e.g. Bachelor’s).
  • Experience of leading safeguarding in an educational setting for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding in the UK context.
  • Experience working with young people e.g. as a social worker, or in a youth group setting.
  • Experience of safeguarding in an international context (not essential).
  • Knowledge of education in the British-style and the associated processes and procedures.
  • Experience of working with IT that assists the effective execution of the DSL role.
  • Ability to differentiate your approach with colleagues to meet the needs of the team.
