The Undergraduate Research (UR) Office seeks a program assistant with a customer service mindset to perform a wide range of clerical support tasks. The UR Office oversees university-level undergraduate initiatives that support and enhance the undergraduateexperience. The successful candidate will be task-oriented, enjoyhelpingotherstudents, possess strong communication skills, and work both independently and collaboratively in support of unit efforts. Studentswithcareer interestsinhigher ed and student affairs administration are encouraged to apply.
Note:
This position has NO research components and DOES NOT require research experience.
This position has an anticipated start date of March, 30 2026. This part-time role in an office environment is flexible to accommodate school schedules. Furthermore, there isanopportunity for summer employment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support officeinitiatives, including education and outreach programming
- Assist in maintaining and updating program and assessment data using spreadsheets and related software
- Respond toemail inquiries
- Monitorprogress of Undergraduate Research Module (URE) usage and create records for the Spartan Experience Record
- Collect and organizematerialsfor the Neighborhood Poster Initiative
- Promote acollaborative work environmentbysharingresourcesand coordinating events with employees of all levels
- Participate in university-level event planning and logistical supportforthe University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF) heldeachspringand Mid-Michigan Symposium for Undergraduate Researchers (MidSURE) each summer
- Cover the office front desk in case of absence
Required Qualifications
- Current MSU undergraduate student (first- or second-year preferred)
- Ability to work in‑person in 2103 STEM during the academic year (in‑person or remote work possible for summer)
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Reliability and responsiveness to feedback
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Interest in undergraduate research, creativity, or higher education
- Availability to work in the summer (remote work possible)
- Proficient in Excel
- Desire to develop leadership and project management skills
Reporting:
- This position reports to the Director for Undergraduate Research
Interacts with:
- Students/Program Participants/Faculty/Staff – to share information
- Co-workers/Supervisors – to discuss and collaborate on current work
Work Hours:
- Approximately 10 – 20 hours per week primarily during standard office hours from M-F 8 to 5pm
