We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Physical Education to play a central role in delivering an outstanding PE curriculum and a vibrant co‑curricular sport programme.
DescriptionWe are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Physical Education to play a central role in delivering an outstanding PE curriculum and a vibrant co‑curricular sport programme. The postholder will teach Physical Education to A Level and contribute significantly to sport beyond the classroom. The role requires a dedication to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
Teachers of PE are expected to be in school from 8:00 am and to contribute to the co‑curricular sport provision each day until 5:30 pm. Attendance at Saturday fixtures and training during term time (excluding exeat weekends) is required, with appropriate adjustment given to weekly teaching allocations. The postholder will also contribute to wider school initiatives, community outreach, and continuous improvement through performance management and professional development.
Key Responsibilities- to demonstrate excellent subject and curriculum knowledge in Physical Education
- to be able to plan and deliver well‑structured, engaging lessons
- to use assessment accurately and productively, including both formative and summative methods
- to take a significant role in the PE & Sport co‑curricular programme
- to promote strong progress and positive outcomes for all students
- to mark work to a high standard, providing regular, constructive feedback
- to manage behaviour effectively to ensure a safe and purposeful learning environment
- to deliver examination specifications thoroughly and accurately, including coursework requirements.
- to coach a range of sports, including at least one of the School’s major sports.
- to contribute actively to sports fixtures, trips, tours and events.
- to monitor, assess and record student progress in line with Department and School policies
- to be educated to degree level in Sports Science or a related subject
- to hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- to be able to teach Physical Education to A Level
- to have excellent communication, IT and organisational skills
- to be able to coach a range of sports, including at least one major sport
- to have a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and commitment to child welfare
- to take the initiative and drive to develop students’ interest in PE and Sport
- to be able to relate effectively to students and motivate them
- to be able to teach a second subject within the School curriculum e.g. Biology, Psychology or Academic Projects (desirable)
- to hold a Level 2 (or above) coaching qualification in at least one of the School’s major sports (desirable)
- to have previous experience in independent, boarding and/or Catholic education (desirable)
