Overview

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled editor to provide editorial support for graduate-level theses and dissertations. The selected candidate will review and edit documents to ensure clarity, organization, grammatical accuracy, formatting consistency, and adherence to university guidelines and academic standards. This position operates on an as-needed basis. Weekly hours are not guaranteed and will vary depending on the volume and scope of thesis and dissertation editing requests.

  • This position is telework-eligible within the state of Utah.
  • ACA variable-hour position
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. U.S. work authorization is required for the duration of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Formatting in relation to the School of Graduate Studies publication guide.
  • APA formatting.
  • Provide feedback about formatting that might clarify the structure of the document.
Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, including strong command of grammar, punctuation, syntax, and formatting standards.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Ability to prioritize work effectively and adapt to changing timelines or project demands.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, including Track Changes, Styles, and advanced formatting tools.

  • Professionalism in working with graduate students and faculty, including discretion and confidentiality in handling academic work.

  • Commitment to accuracy, quality, and maintaining high academic standards.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively while also functioning autonomously in a remote work environment.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Advertised Salary $28.00 per hour ADA

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
