ScheduleTypical hours occur during the fall and spring semesters, with occasional opportunities to work during winter and summer breaks. Hours are primarily in afternoons and evenings and includes weekly team meetings based on team availability.

Are you in interested in supporting the wellbeing of UW-Madison students? Are you looking to develop leadership, advocacy, and communication skills? Perhaps you are pursuing a career in a clinical field, education, or health promotion? If so, let’s chat! We are hiring the next cohort of Peer Wellness Educators at Rec Well who will start in August 2026. Typical hours occur during the fall and spring semesters, with occasional opportunities to work during winter and summer breaks.
In this role, no experience as a peer wellness educator is required; students will be trained to become peer wellness educators during employment.
- Demonstrated communication, leadership, teamwork, and organization skills.
- Experience or interest in developing health promotion programs for diverse audiences.
- Interest and comfort in public speaking via workshops, presentations, tabling, etc.
- Interest in wellbeing and a commitment to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and supporting environment for both coworkers and participants.
- Ability to serve in the role for at least one academic year (August-May) with option to renew/continue working up until graduation.
- Ability to attend team onboarding and training on August 26th-28th.
- Ability to balance academic and job responsibilities.
- Ability to attend weekly team meetings during fall and spring semesters
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain it within the first semester of employment. We offer free CPR courses for employees at Rec Well.
Job Duties
- Facilitate presentations and workshops across campus on a variety of wellness topics such as stress management, sleep hygiene, alcohol use, intuitive eating, gratitude, nutrition, mental health, peer support, etc.
- Advocate for health and wellbeing through tabling and other campus outreach efforts
- Assist in developing innovative health education workshops for a variety of populations
- Build skills in leadership, public speaking, group facilitation, teamwork, and health communication
- Create safe and inclusive spaces to learn about how to support one’s wellbeing as a student
- Develop professional relationships with coworkers and participants
- Refer student participants to UHS and other campus and community partners for additional support when appropriate
- Learn from and collaborate with campus partners about a variety of topics related to wellbeing and prevention on and off-campus
- Commit to upholding the mission, vision, and values of Rec Well on and off-shift and will be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Attend weekly team meetings during the fall and spring semesters
- Understand and abide by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Provide feedback to make the program the best it can be for UW-Madison students
