PurposeThe Thomas Jefferson Center for the Study of Core Texts and Ideas invites applications for a post-doctoral teaching fellowship for a term of one academic year, subject to receipt of funding, from August 16, 2026 to August 15, 2027.
This position is a full-time appointment that provides a competitive salary and benefits. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. degree within the past three (3) years before the starting date.
Please submit a cover letter explaining your interest in teaching the great books in a multi-disciplinary setting and setting forth research aims and plans, a current C.V., a research paper or other suitable evidence of scholarship, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and a list of references (one of which should be from a previous supervisor). The Final date to receive applications is April 30th, 2026.

Responsibilities- Teach one undergraduate course per semester on classic writings in one of our core categories: history of political philosophy; the challenge of the Greeks; the Bible and other major religious texts; and the American civic tradition.
- Conduct scholarly research.
- Other related functions as assigned.
- Must have a Ph.D., conferred no more than 3 years before the start date, and may not hold a tenured position elsewhere.
$60,000
Working ConditionsTypical office environment.
Austin-area base is required with a blend of in-person work and remote work.

Retirement Plan EligibilityThe retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
