Position Overview
The College of Liberal Arts Department of Music seeks a Term Instructor of Piano to join the team on the University of Alaska Troth Yeddha campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Department of Music has approximately 50 majors, offering a BA in Music, a BM in Performance, an MB in Music Education, and an MM in Performance. The department is creatively active, with nearly 100 musical events scheduled in a given semester, ongoing community outreach, and a vibrant and diverse student community.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will work as a team member within the Music department and the College of Liberal Arts to fulfill a bi-partite workload of teaching and service. The applicant should possess experience in teaching at the college/university level and experience developing curriculum and teaching materials for various modalities. The ability to work with and instruct students of different backgrounds and learning styles is of extreme importance.
You will be expected to teach 2–3 courses per semester in Functional Piano and Fundamentals of Music, with the possibility of additional courses in Class Piano, music history, or music theory, depending on department needs, and fulfill various service obligations within the academic year.
To thrive in this role, candidates should have a strong interest in teaching and mentoring students in both face‑to‑face and online modalities, and be comfortable learning and using instructional technologies.
The primary focus of the position will be on accompaniment activities. Applicants should expect to spend a large portion of time preparing music and rehearsing with students, faculty, and guest artists, and coaching students collaboratively.
Minimum Qualifications- MM in Collaborative Piano, Piano Performance, or similar degree.
- Graduate or Teaching Assistant experience of at least two years in piano accompaniment or collaborative piano.
- DMA in Collaborative Piano, Piano Performance, or similar degree.
- Experience teaching piano for non‑pianist music majors, accompanying and coaching professionals and students.
This position is located on the Troth Yhedda campus in Fairbanks, Alaska.
