Teaching and research in international relations at the Department of Political Science reflect the diversity of International Relations as a subdiscipline of Political Science. Our research is characterised by a theory-driven approach, which also informs how we educate our students as researchers. You share this approach and want to contribute to our teaching and research based on your own expertise.

Teaching in International Relations is embedded in Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in political science, which are praised for their coherence and quality. As an Assistant Professor, you will teach courses within these Bachelor's and Master's programmes. Research in International Relations is part of the research programme of the Department of Political Science, which focuses on two themes: ‘Sustainable Democracy’ and ‘Conflict and Cooperation in a Changing World’.

As a researcher, you will also participate in faculty and interfaculty interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research groups. Moreover, you will take on administrative and management tasks related to the organisation of education and research within the Department of Political Science.

• You have a PhD degree in International Relations.
• You have proven expertise in Global Political Economy.
• You preferably have expertise in the fields of climate change and European cooperation.
• You have a strong affinity with both Political Science as a discipline and interdisciplinarity.
• You have good teaching skills and teaching experience at both BA and MA level, including thesis supervision.
• You have a University Teaching Qualification or are willing to obtain one.
• You are able to teach in Dutch within three years of your appointment.
• You have knowledge of qualitative and quantitative social science research methods.
• You publish within the field and have a clear research vision, including plans for external funding applications.
• Your research interests align with the political science research programme.
• You are a team-player.

• We will give you a temporary employment contract of one year with the prospect of an indefinite contract.
• Your salary within salary scale 11 depends on your previous education and number of years of (relevant) work experience. The amounts in the scale are based on a 38-hour working week.
• You will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% end-of-year bonus.
• You will receive extra days off. With full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the statutory 20.
