You have honed your persuasion skills to a competitive edge. Now you will prepare talented students who aim to win—not simply improve their public speaking. If you bring legitimate debate credentials and can deliver coaching in high-pressure settings, this environment will suit you.
GT School develops high-achieving learners through real competition. Students participate in serious debate circuits, accumulate portfolio-worthy victories, and demonstrate measurable skill. This position is designed to convert raw talent into concrete outcomes: more refined cases, smarter strategy, cleaner execution, and increased finalist appearances.
You will lead live virtual sessions, prepare students for designated formats (including Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum), and produce curriculum materials that other instructors can deploy. This is not a light enrichment offering. You will be measured by results, and you will be empowered to teach at an advanced level.
If you are ready to share hard-won expertise, instill confidence in gifted K–8 learners, and contribute to the development of future champions, we want to hear from you.
What You Will Be Doing- Facilitate 2–4 live virtual debate sessions per week, structured for speed, interaction, and active student participation in debates
- Prepare competition-ready students using mock rounds, targeted drills, and personalized critique tailored to their format and approach
- Translate sophisticated concepts in argumentation, cross-examination, and rebuttal into digestible, instructional frameworks
- Support research and evidence development so students construct stronger cases aligned with current debate topics and competitive standards
- Develop and iterate on reusable lesson content, topic summaries, and evaluation rubrics that elevate program-wide quality
- Deliver general public speaking or confidence workshops that lack measurable competitive results
- Conduct lecture-only formats where students remain passive observers instead of active debaters
- Offer generic feedback that disregards judging standards, scoring systems, and format-specific tactics
- Produce single-use content that cannot be adapted or that lags behind evolving topics and expectations
Key Responsibilities
This position ensures that gifted K–8 students reliably achieve measurable debate competition victories and finalist rankings that validate GT School's real-stakes educational model.
Basic Requirements- Documented elite debate accomplishment (awards, rankings, finalist placements) and/or demonstrated success coaching winning debaters or squads
- Minimum of 6 months teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with documented outcomes
- Comprehensive understanding of competitive debate structures, judging standards, and tournament protocols
- Capability to lead compelling, on-camera virtual classes with strong instructor presence and clear communication
- Availability to commit 5–10 hours weekly in a fully remote capacity
- Dependable internet connection and professional-grade video and audio equipment
- Portfolio, track record, or credentials that validate competitive debate background
