Overview
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) provides leadership, resources, support, and guidance to approximately 200,000 school district staff serving approximately 1.5 million students in public and non-public schools and 39,000 students in special education transition services. In addition, MDE provides administrative support and supervision for the Michigan School for the Deaf and the Library of Michigan.
MDE is responsible for state education leadership in a local control state and works to implement state and federal education laws, disburse state and federal resources, license educators, develop state summative assessments and accountability systems, create state academic standards, and coordinate school health and nutrition programs. In addition, in developing and promoting the state’s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan, MDE works with partner education entities and stakeholders to improve public education for children across the state.
MDE’s role in the improvement of public education extends to providing information and feedback to public policy-makers, convening educators on public policy issues, recommending draft language on legislation, and developing guidance to districts on statutory changes adopted at the state and federal levels.

Office and LocationThe Office of Nutrition Services (ONS) is the state administering agency for the federal food programs such as National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, Child and Adult Care Food Program, the Summer Food Service Program, and commodity programs such as USDA Foods for Schools, The Emergency Food Assistance Program, and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.

A. Hannah Building, 608 West Allegan Street, Lansing, Michigan 48933. A hybrid flexible schedule of in-person and remote work is available.
- Food Distribution and Procurement Analyst — The Food Distribution and Procurement Analyst will complete ordering, receipt, and utilization of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) foods for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) partner agencies, as well as all other programs created to supply USDA food and administrative funding in support of CSFP and TEFAP.
This position will support procurement-related activities for Child Nutrition Programs to include support for sponsor level procurement and monitoring reviews, as well as facilitating logistics, ordering, receipt, and distribution of USDA Foods for Schools. - Summer EBT (Child Nutrition Eligibility) Analyst — The position is responsible for analyzing, researching, evaluating, and monitoring the child nutrition program student eligibility and school eligibility data that is used to provide meal benefits to students. The position will support all MDE activities related to program eligibility data used for Child Nutrition Programs including the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (Summer-EBT) program.
This position is responsible for the positive professional culture, climate of trust, and organizational health that is the pathway toward meeting these goals. This position analyzes and evaluates program deficiencies, develops corrective action plans with specific deadlines for compliance, and provides potential solutions.
