The role of the Early Head Start Home Visitor focuses on child development, parental engagement, and social service support. Responsibilities include recruitment and enrollment of eligible families of infants/toddlers; developing and implementing comprehensive programs that enhance health, nutrition, and education support, and connecting families with community resources. The EHS Home Visitor is also responsible for assessing the needs of each child and family, making referrals for services, and maintaining accurate records of home visits, family progress, and any referral services made for children and families.

Pay is $60,361.60 annually. This is a Union position.

Responsibilities
  • Assist and support with the recruitment and enrollment of eligible children and families and maintain confidentiality of all records and information.
  • Integration and linkage of Head Start services to families and children enrolled in the home-based program.
  • Conduct weekly 90-minute home visits, modeling and implementing developmentally age-appropriate parent-child education activities and interactions.
  • Guide, assist, and support parents to help them become effective teachers and advocates for their children.
  • Plan and implement monthly group socializations and activities and assist parents with transportation needs to increase engagement.
  • Implement the Parents as Teachers Curriculum in all home base settings.
  • Assist parents in understanding their child’s developmental milestones and how to foster social/emotional, physical and cognitive growth.
  • Assess the needs of each child and family; and collaborate with families to establish family goals and family partnership agreement.
  • Provide resources to support children and families' social services, mental health, nutritional, educational, and disability service needs.
  • Promote parental involvement in curriculum planning, program governance, and the overall Head Start program.
  • Support and implement transitional services from Home Base into Head Start programs.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records, data entry, and monthly reports on child and family services.
  • Complete developmental and social emotional screenings and document developmental progress.
  • Promote and encourage parental involvement in socializations, curriculum planning, program governance, and the overall Head Start program.
  • Demonstrate willingness and desire to improve professionally and maintain a minimum of 30 hours of training annually through college courses, Gateways, YMCA, Grantee, or other.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field with social service and case management experience or college credit hours.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain Parents as Teachers certification.
  • Mature, sensitive, and able to relate well to infants/toddlers, and adults
  • Flexible in work hours to accommodate child and family needs
  • Ability to work independently
  • Reliable transportation to travel to and from home visits and group socialization experiences, and training.
  • Working knowledge of computers and various software
  • This is a union position
Child Abuse Prevention
  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
